Led by Feelings Vs. Led by God: Daniel Prevost
Hey friends,
The past few weeks have been something of a whirlwind for me! I always hope that after Easter, things will start to slow down, but that just isn’t the case this year. Perhaps you’re in the same boat, too!
But, my friends, God is on our side and He is for us. Selah! This is good, good news.
Anyway, today my good pal Daniel Prevost has taken over my blog. We went to college together (and actually Dan the Man just graduated – congratulations!!), and I was so impressed and challenged by Dan’s fervency and passion to share the message of Christ, which he would do regularly and intentionally. I hardcore miss having him right across the hall… beating me to smithereens at trivia games and Connect 4… and also giving him a hard time about the fact that he always wanted to play Connect 4. He truly has the urgency of an evangelist, the mindset of a shepherd, and the attitude of a servant. I know you will be profoundly blessed by his words… as I often am!
Thanks, Dan. Let’s get together again soon!
Led By Feelings Vs. Led By God
How would your life be different if your choices were not influenced by your feelings? What would happen if every time you didn’t feel like doing something that needed to be done, you could simply turn off those feelings with the flip of a switch? On early mornings when you didn’t feel like waking up to go running or work out, you could just flip that switch. Anytime you didn’t feel like studying for a test or writing a paper, you could instantly get rid of those dreaded feelings. Have you ever wondered how different your life might be if your decisions were not influenced by how you feel?
Because of our natural inclination as human beings to sin, if we allow our life to be guided by how we feel, the result will be destruction. Many families are destroyed, for example, because couples who don’t feel in love anymore decide to get a divorce. As a follower of Jesus, I know that my decisions should not be guided by how I feel, but rather by godly wisdom. So how do I put an end to being led by my feelings?
Here is the advice that the Word of God gives: “Walk in the Spirit, and let the Spirit bring order to your life. If you do, you will never give in to your selfish and sinful cravings” (Galatians 5:16, The Voice). Being led by the Spirit means not allowing your feelings to dictate your decisions, but rather what God would want you to do. Sometimes in life all of this means that we just have to say “no” to ourselves, even when it feels so natural to give in to our feelings. When we allow godly wisdom to direct our life, God brings order and blessing.
So, who will you choose to direct your life: your feelings or the Spirit of God?
