Worshipers and Workers

Hey, friends—happy Thursday!

God is so enriching. In the happiest of times, in the most painful of times.. He loves us so, so, so, so much..

I wanted to touch on a topic that is all too easy for us to forget.

In Mark 12, an ambitious teacher of the Torah asked Jesus what the most important commandment was. Jesus answered matter-of-factly, “The most important commandment is this: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength’ ” (verses 29-30).

Simple yet monumentally profound. Loving God is paramount, above every other priority, period.

It’s frighteningly easy to confuse our priorities at times, isn’t it though? We can even get caught up in doing “good things,” even spiritual things, but if it doesn’t flow out of firstly loving God, then we’ve missed the point. Yes, even things like reaching the lost, helping the helpless, driving out demons, or healing the sick. If our priority is not loving God, then we in fact value the work we do for Him more than He Himself! I don’t want to stand before God at the end of my time here on this earth and say, “But God, I did this in Your Name, and this, and this, and this!” only to hear Him say, “I never knew You.”

More than God cares about us being missionaries, teachers, or prophets.. He desires that we be lovers… worshipers. Worshipers first, workers second. And from our worship—our unadulterated devotion, our astonished wonder, our reverent infatuation—will naturally flow an earnest heart for the “doing” part.

And get this: God is actually looking for worshipers. Searching. John 4:23 consumes me.. knowing that God is looking for those who will love His Son.. I pray He would count me as one of those worshipers.

Believing for you today, friends.. I pray you experience God’s perfect goodness and breathtaking peace, no matter what you are up against.
