An Everyday God

“…I am with you all the days (perpetually, uniformly, and on every occasion), to the [very] close and consummation of the age.  Amen (so let it be)” (Matthew 28:20).

Those words of Jesus are so profound.  They are the last recorded words of Christ in the Gospel of Matthew, and what a great note to close on.  And what a great reminder for us.

Jesus Himself is with us every moment of our lives.  He is reaching for us from the moment we were each born.  There is not a single second of our lives that He has found disinteresting or not worth His attention.

What I have learned about our great God is that He longs to be an “everyday” God to us.  He desperately desires to be invited into every intimate detail of our chaotic, up-and-down, sometimes frantic, sometimes blissful lives.  From the moment we emerge into the world until we draw our very final breath, He is with us in a way that is closer than can be defined.

His grace is reaching for us in our best moments and in our worst moments.

Reaching for you.

Recognize today that the Presence of Christ is with you right now, in the middle of the mundane.  And He is so deeply concerned with the details of your life.  Every time you look at your bills, every time you are frustrated with folding laundry, every time you recall that big regret, every time your heart is wilting with grief… He is with you in the thick of it all.  On every occasion – and He has given you, personally, His word.

Selah!

“For this God is our God for ever and ever; He will be our guide even to the end.” Psalm 48:14
