Jesus is on the Throne

Happy Thursday, friends!

My lengthy whirlwind transition has been whirlwindier (Shakespeare would be proud of how I just make up words) as of late. As I write, I’m sitting on the floor of my living room against the front door, staring listlessly at my big red couch and enduring the pulsating music from next door.

But Jesus is on the throne.

Jesus our God is high and exalted, enthroned on the praises of His creation. His countenance is brighter than the sun in full strength, and His voice is both still and gentle yet as overwhelming as the sound of a rushing waterfall. Flashes of lightning and peals of thunder rumble around Him, and angels worship Him with foreheads to the ground. What a terrifying and awesome sight to behold! He rules over all things He has created with wisdom, justice, and kindness. Certainly there is no equal to Him! There is no one who can parallel His matchless worth, and He is alone in holy distinction. We would do right to fall before Him with humbled hearts, submissive minds, and open hands.

Jesus is unquestionably and irrevocably in charge of the affairs of the universe, with which He is intimately involved, and nothing escapes His attention.

No planet is born without Him having breathed it into existence. No asteroid streaks through the night unless He has pinpointed exactly when it will depart and when it will arrive at its destination. There is not a mountain range that has formed over many years here on Earth that was not crafted thoughtfully by the Maker. The life span of the tiniest organism in the depths of the Atlantic has been exactly plotted out by Jesus.

And, may I remind you, there’s not a detail of your life that catches the Lord by surprise.

Whether a blessing He specified for you based on His extreme generosity (not our merit) or a troubling circumstance He allowed to accomplish His greater sovereign plan, you can be assured that the Lord is supremely invested in our lives and is working all things together for our good and His glory.

Did you catch that? He is working all things together for our good and His glory.

We have no reason to fear. Fear denies that Jesus has all things in His control – and how foolish fear seems when we examine life with God-perspective.

Let me leave you with a powerful psalm:

Lord, how they have increased who trouble me! Many are they who rise up against me. Many are they who say of me, “There is no help for him in God.”

But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, my glory and the One who lifts up my head. I cried to the Lord with my voice, and He heard me from His holy hill.

I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the Lord sustained me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people who have set themselves against me all around.

Arise, O Lord; save me, O my God! For You have struck all my enemies on the cheekbone; You have broken the teeth of the ungodly.

Salvation belongs to the Lord. Your blessing is upon Your people. Selah.

Psalm 3

Yes! With Jesus Christ, our High King and strikingly powerful Creator God, on our side, we have nothing to fear. He reigns, and He always, always will.

Whatever you’re facing in this season, friend, call on the name of God. His arm is not too short to reach out and save you.

Peace,
Josh
